Here’s a story with a happy ending from one of the Northgate community members, which occurred yesterday.
At about 3:35pm today my neighbor knocked on my door saying she thought my garage had just been robbed. (I left it open for about an hour- stupid I know). We went out to look and sure enough over $1500 in my fiance’s tools had been stolen.
I called the police and an officer was at my house within 5 minutes. My neighbor gave an amazing descriptions of the people and vehicle to the officer. I filed a report and the officer was on her way.
Because it had happened only 30 minutes ago (at that time) I decided to drive around to look for the vehicle (a bright yellow Jeep Wrangler). I really didn’t think I would find them but what the heck… the FIRST area I went to look for them I FOUND THEM! I was soooo excited.
I called the police again, had my neighbor drive down to the scene- 19th Ave and Thunderbird. My neighbor had to be there to positively identify the people. They were arrested and I got all my items back!
I am so happy to know that they have been caught and arrested. I can’t believe that people are robbing houses at 3:30pm in the afternoon with a car in the garage. We all need to keep our garages shut ALL DAY EVERYDAY- sadly. The moral of the story is: Don’t rob the Blockwatch Captain’s house!
I’d say the moral of the story is to always keep an eye out and be alert, for your neighbor’s and your own sake. Don’t leave an open garage unattended. There will always be thieves looking to steal from an easy pickings location and our community “gates” are nothing more than decoration, as they provide no real security.

On Saturday, October 24th, Northgate Block Watch held our 2nd annual GAIN Event/Block Party. It was a wonderful success, with about 150 people in attendance! There were kids events (face painting, Tug-of-War, etc), vendor booths and lots of food and fun. A long list of great raffle prizes were given away, so if you missed this year’s event, be sure to attend next year. We also collected over 48 pounds of food for St. Mary’s food bank.
Thanks especially to our GAIN Event Chairs, Kristena and Jennifer, who worked tirelessly to make this event happen! In addition, many of our Block Watch members gave generously of their time and resources to help out – from set up/tear down to grilling the burgers to serving food and more. In addition, there were seven vendor booths and many contributors to our raffle prizes. Thanks so much for your help in the success of this event. We have a talented and fun group of homeowners at Northgate!
